Tens of thousands of families claim the talc in baby powder causes cancer. The talcum powder lawsuit claims that manufacturers such as Johnson and Johnson knew their talc was contaiminated by abestos and could cancer but did nothing to warn the consumer. Johnson and Johnson faces nearly 35,000 cases for absestos contamination of talc products.
In June 2021, the U.S Supreme Court rejected Johnson and Johnsons request for the court to overturn a $2.1 billion lawsuit in Missouri awarding 22 women who were diagnosed with ovarian cancer. A voluntary recall was issued by Johnson and Johnson on October 18, 2019 for one lot of its baby powder after a U.S. Food and Drig Administration test found trace levels of asbestos contamination.
